What size should I order? Most smock bibs here run from around 6 months to 3 years, cut generously so they sit over clothes rather than replacing them. If your baby is between sizes, go up: a roomy smock still catches everything, while a snug one rides up and leaves the belly exposed at exactly the wrong moment. Check the measurements on each listing, since the tiers differ slightly.

How do I clean one? Rinse the worst off under the tap straight after the meal and hang it to drip dry over the laundry sink. Many parents never machine wash them at all. When you do, use a cool gentle cycle and skip the dryer entirely, since heat is what eventually breaks down a waterproof backing. For a faster option again, the silicone bibs rinse in seconds.

Long sleeve or short sleeve? Long sleeve wins for anything involving sauce, yoghurt, paint, or a toddler holding a loaded spoon at shoulder height. Short sleeve suits warm Melbourne afternoons and babies who object to anything near their wrists. Plenty of families keep both and choose by menu.
