Which yellow suits which skin tone?
Mustard and old gold are the more forgiving pair, because the brown in them softens the contrast. Lemon and buttercup sing on warmer complexions and in natural light, and can look slightly stark on very fair skin under fluorescent lighting indoors. Outdoors, almost any yellow in this range works.
Is mustard a winter colour?
It is the one yellow that genuinely works year round. In cable knit it belongs to autumn and winter, sitting beside olive, rust and oat. In plain nylon it is perfectly at home in January against a white dress. If you only want one yellow in the drawer, make it mustard.
Does pale yellow show marks?
More than a mid tone would, and rather less than white does. Lemon and buttercup will show a food mark if one lands, so a quick rinse on the day beats a soak a week later. Keep the paler yellows for occasions and the mustards for daycare, and both will last considerably longer.
