Bows earn their keep at the unglamorous end of the day too. They survive the pram, the supermarket, the daycare drop off and the three outfit changes in between, which is why most parents end up with a small drawer of them rather than one good one. Match the bow to the outfit, or ignore the outfit entirely, as is tradition.

Questions, answered
Will a headband leave a mark on my baby's head?
The nylon and no-mark elastic bands are chosen specifically so they do not. They stretch rather than grip, which spreads the pressure across the whole head instead of digging into one line above the ears. If you can slide two fingers underneath comfortably, the fit is right. Take it off for naps and long car trips, mostly because an unattended bow is a chewed bow.
What size should I order?
One size covers newborn through to about two years, and the band stretches with the head rather than needing replacing. What actually changes is proportion: small knots suit the newborn months and bigger bows look better once there is some hair to anchor them. If you are buying as a gift and do not know the age, a multipack hedges nicely.
How do I wash them?
Hand wash in cool water with a little mild detergent, press the water out rather than wringing, and lay flat to dry away from direct sun. Cable knit and waffle bows hold their shape far longer this way. Skip the machine, skip the dryer, and never iron directly onto a bow unless you are after a very flat bow.
